Renovation and transformation of a roof and interior spaces of a building of the State of Geneva.
The Venel project concerns the renovation of mansions in the Champel district, owned by the State of Geneva.
The building is managed by the Department of Security, Population and Health, supervising the Cantonal Detention Office.
The function of the building is to provide accommodation for people subject to removal orders, or to provide reintegration assistance for people leaving detention.
The state of disrepair of the building, and in particular the roofs, necessitated an extensive programme of renovation and improvement of the thermal qualities of the building.

The project consisted of renovating the entire building envelope (framework, roofing, facades, exterior joinery, stonework) as well as the interior fittings.
The renovation of the building also involved interior work related to the shell (complete renovation of the rooms and sanitary units)
The remarkable quality of the manor house built at the end of the 19th century includes many original details, particularly in the roof (spikes, chimneys, tinwork, dormer windows, etc.) as well as in the facades (ironwork on the windows, stone framing and channelling, oak joinery, etc.)
Particular care has been taken to ensure that the original details are strictly respected. The shapes of the remarkable elements, such as the roof punches, have been reproduced identically based on the models that were dismantled.
The original materials were also scrupulously respected (zinc for the roofs, repair of the ashlar elements with the same origins and the same colours). All the renovation work was carried out by craftsmen who were able to showcase their perfectly mastered know-how, according to ancestral construction methods.
