Development of a training center for technical building trades
Purpose of the project
Creation, at the Espace Tourbillon, of a common training center dedicated to the inter-company courses (CIE) of the technical building trades:
Tinsmiths - Heating installers - Sanitary installers - Metal builders
The MBG Joint Training Center is located in Building A of the Espace Tourbillon, on a total area of2100m2 located on the first floor (metal builders) and on the fifth floor (heating installers, tinsmiths, sanitary installers and administration). In addition, there are 230m2 in the basement for storage space.

The Tourbillon space offers a particularly efficient delivery management: An access to the 2nd basement for 38T trucks (semi-trailer type) allows to supply the whole building with material, accessible at each floor by 4000kg elevators.
Our project consisted in setting up collective workshop spaces (for 12 to 20 apprentices) on a rough surface, only equipped with heating and ventilation installations. These workshops accommodate apprentices for the entire apprenticeship program.
From the point of view of the organization of space: the project concentrates the spaces annexed to the workshops (storage rooms, checkrooms, sanitary rooms, technical) on the central part of the premises, in order to free up the spaces close to the façades for the workshops and activities. This layout allows for maximum use of natural light in the students' work areas. Large open areas allow for flexibility in the layout of the building according to the level of education during the 4 years of learning.
The construction principle, with the use of sandstone walls, is adapted to the use of the spaces as workshops, guaranteeing a resistance linked to the activity. For the office area, classrooms and cafeteria, light partitions were installed, ensuring acoustic comfort and speed of execution.
Une adaptation importante des installations techniques existante a été nécessaire pour répondre aux exigences strictes des activités professionnelles. Des locaux gaz ont été aménagés au rez-de-chaussée pour alimenter les 4 ateliers. Des ballons thermodynamiques (type de pompe à chaleur), assurent l’eau chaude sanitaire.
Les box de travail pour les élèves ont été réalisés en structures métalliques en acier inoxydable et panneaux bois. Chaque box est équipé de tous les installations nécessaires pour l’apprentissage. (gaz, électricité, eau,..)
